Workshops range in price from $25 - $150.
It is the oldest of all classical dance forms in India. Of divine origin and can be traced to over 3,000 years, it is sacred and inspirational in nature. Popular in South India and known for its statuesque and sculpturesque poses, it is an embodiment of beauty and charm. Hence BHA(expression) + RAga(music) + TAla(rhythm) + NATYAM(Dance) = Bharatanatyam. It is extremely traditional as the dancer is considered the worshiper of the Divine, and uplifts the audience to a higher level of spiritual consciousness.
A recent addition to the dance genre and continually evolving, it is the result of the Film industry. It fuses classical Indian dance steps with folk, tribal, hip-hop, Latin and Spanish styles at a fast-moving dance workout.
From “Katha” = story, a storytellers delight. It is a classical dance originating in North India. Kathakaar or storytellers used facial expressions and hand gestures, to tell stories and added extra flourishes to transform it into a dance style. Known for its gracefulness and fast footwork, the dancer is a joy to behold.
Both developed with Sanskrit language scripts in itself and Vedic traditions. The India School offers classes and workshops in Vocal and Instrumental Music. (Tabla, Harmonium, Sitar et al) Music classes are arranged on a one to one basis till the aspirant reaches a required level of understanding of theory and develops needed skills (Technique)
Dances from different provinces reflect a lifestyle of socio-economic groups in the area. The primary impulse of these dances is rhythm, a spontaneous expression of emotions to celebrate a joyful season, or solidarity in a critical situation.
