Journey Towards Truth and Reconciliation: Our Way
We are discussing the journey undertaken by the India School of Dance, Music & Theatre (ISDMT) towards truth and reconciliation, particularly in the context of indigenous culture and values.
In the last four decades the India School has proven to be a leader in the Arts. From 1987, with the Prix Manitoba Award for outstanding work in the field of multiculturalism to the First Community Leadership Award by the Asian Heritage Society in 2019.
We provide instruction in the following Dance and Music Subjects:
Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced levels in preparation for festivals and Folklorama
Classes and workshops in Vocal and Instrumental Music
The mission of the India School of Dance, Music & Theatre Inc. is the preservation and promotion of the visual, literary and performing arts of India for all Manitobans. This is achieved by teaching, showcasing and sharing our resources with the community.

The India School of Dance, Music & Theatre Inc. in collaboration with AWOW and other sister organizations are documenting the legacy of South Asians in Manitoba. Our focus is on noteworthy contributions that benefits all Manitobans.
The India School of Dance, Music & Theatre Inc. believes that every interested person in the Arts has a right to be to be part of The creative process of enlightenment, (research and scholarship), and be provided the opportunity to share their gifts, (talents and work), with all Canadians and the world.
Our passionate and dedicated instructors are the heart and soul of our institution.
Anna has been dancing Odissi in the Tradition of Guru Surendra Nath Jena for more than six years. Her teachers are Olga Rashko (Ukrainian) and Guru Pratibha Jena Singh (Indian). She was born in Ukraine, Lviv, and moved to Canada in 2019 to study Theatre and Film at the University of Winnipeg.
Revanti joined India School of Dance, Music & Theatre in 2022 as an instructor in traditional classical Kathak dance and Bollywood. She started dancing at the age of six under the guidance of Padma Shri Guru Rani Karnaa, who was also the disciple of Pandit Birju Maharaj at 'Sangeet Natak Academy' (Delhi, India) trained in both Jaipur and Lucknow Kathak gharanas.
Shavira began taking Kathak lessons at the India School of Dance, Music & Theatre in 2004. After five years of training, she completed her Aradhana, or graduation, with five other dancers as India School’s and Manitoba’s first group to do so in the style of Kathak.
From small beginnings of only 25 students, the India School now accommodates well over 150 students and teachers.
